Using the service
Transit MCP is an unofficial community project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by WMATA, MTA, 511 SF Bay, OpenAI, Anthropic, or any transit agency. You may use it to retrieve public, read-only transit information through its website, server-information endpoint, and MCP tools. The service does not sell tickets, control transit operations, or modify agency data.
Live data has limits
WMATA and MTA control the availability and accuracy of the public service’s upstream feeds. SF Bay Area data depends on 511 SF Bay and participating Bay Area operators. Data can be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, unavailable, omitted, stale, or changed without notice. Transit MCP can also be interrupted by network, edge-platform, deployment, or maintenance events.
Global capabilities may report scheduled-only or unavailable results. A listed tool does not establish coverage or current service. Journey estimates, including explicitly estimated walking, do not guarantee a connection, fare, platform, or accessibility. Check the result’s timestamps, reasons, and official agency information.
Fair use and rate limits
Please use reasonable request rates. Abuse, disruption, attempts to circumvent service protections, and unlawful use are prohibited. Avoid automated traffic that disrupts the service or its upstream providers. Transit MCP uses abuse controls and rate limits, currently configured at roughly 300 requests per 60-second window per source-IP key per Cloudflare location. Shared networks can share that allowance, and enforcement is eventually consistent.
Requests may be refused, throttled, or limited to protect the service, other users, and upstream systems. The policy can change as operational needs change.
Third-party services and data
Use of Cloudflare, GitHub, WMATA, MTA, 511 SF Bay, participating Bay Area operators, MCP clients, and transit data remains subject to applicable third-party service and data-source terms. Transit MCP does not replace those terms. SF Bay Area data is provided by 511 SF Bay and participating operators.
No warranty
Transit MCP is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of availability, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. To the extent permitted by law, the project author is not liable for losses arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the service or its data.
